Summit III

Thank you for a powerful day! We had over 200 AA Young Ladies and over 50 volunteers show up and share in such a "Village Building" day. In this day we created opportunities for AA Professional Women and Men to fellowship together and co-create a bright future for our young ladies. I was so inspired by the things that came out of our young ladies; from the advocacy plans, to the questions, to the change of perspective and most inspiring was how these young ladies encouraged, pushed and supported each other. We are leading a movement where AA Young Ladies lead in Ubuntu. They are becoming great examples of what it means to be in community. Thank you for being a part of this transformative day!

Chaperones- You Rock! Without you the young ladies could not be part of this. Thank you!!

AAYLS

African American Young Ladies' Summit (AAYLS) consists of young ladies from 6th grade through college. The program started with 9th-12th grades and has expanded due to the demand of students and the community. Each gathering provides culturally responsive support in a trauma-informed/sensitive environment enriching the educational, social, intellectual and interpersonal opportunities for African American young ladies.

Mission:

AA young ladies receive guidance and expertise from a community of caring adults who help mentor, chaperone, and encourage them to form positive relationships with peers and adults. Activities within the summit are trauma-informed/sensitive and align community resources with school-related activities within developmentally appropriate programming. We focus on building a network of positive support to combat the systemic barriers encountered by African American students.

The African American Young Ladies' Summit Program is a holistic village practice that values, empowers, and equips young women with the tools they will need for a lifelong journey of personal success and achievement.Engagement of young African American women in AAYLS affirms:

  • Leadership, Self-worth & Confidence
  • Belonging & Connectedness
  • Community Engagement
  • Afro-beauty (Beauty and Fashion)
  • Overcoming racial barriers in society in school and life

Vision:

Create spaces for AA young ladies to belong, be safe to grow, learn and feel like the amazing creations they are.
